Explorations of the Shadow World (11 disc set) - Includes NEW RELEASE! (11/6/2013)
ShadowLight is pleased to announce the 11 disc DVD Collection: Explorations of the Shadow World. The series includes the documentary films as well as the traditional and innovative shadow work performed by the company over the past thirty years. Artistic Director, Larry Reed, became deeply immersed in shadow theater as he worked and studied with a Balinese shadow master over a twenty year period. For the next fifteen years, Reed has gone on to create a kind of living cinema in shadows on a giant screen, and to use this form to investigate modern uses of fantasy and mythology in cultures around the world.
The complete set chronicles the creation of a unique visual and theatrical vocabulary. Each DVD has high entertainment and educational value. They immerse the viewer in a world of shadows, which engages the mind in that place where dreams are made.
Ghosts of the River: Out of the Shadows goes behind the scenes and beyond the 2009 shadow play written by Octavio Solís, which illuminated stories of those who have crossed the Rio Grande throughout time. This Buddhist parable is told in Mandarin with English narration and includes subtitles in both languages.
